The Women of Mighty Oak Warriors

Women’s Legacy Program leads along the path to healing and helping others Recently, we’ve been sharing stories of graduates, leaders, and staff of Mighty Oaks Warrior Programs with a focus on the Men’s Legacy Program. This month, we aim the spotlight on programming for women as we take time to visit with Women’s Programs Director Susanne Stalnecker. Going, Going, Gone: Art in the Age of Extinction

Special exhibit and events at Studios on the Park in September Don’t let the month of September slip away without stepping inside Studios on the Park and experiencing Going, Going, Gone: Art in the Age of Extinction, a truly unique exhibition focusing on the future of Planet Earth. The exhibit, in Studios’ Atrium Gallery, was organized by local artists Helen K Davie, Eve Chartrand, and Debra Jurey. “The purpose of putting this show together was to bring awareness to what’s happening on our planet, especially how it affects plants and animals and, ultimately, all of us,” said Davie. In addition to Jurey’s bee, butterfly, and animal-themed beaded jewelry, Chartrand will be showing mixed-media work focusing on current threats to wildlife and the planet. Davie has created 12 icons of animals that have recently gone extinct. Four additional artists will join the exhibit: Joshua Coffy, whose mixed media paintings depict animals and our connections with them; Paula Teplitz, a ceramicist who has created papier-mâché sculptures of birds and other animals; and Karen R. Schroeder and Sara Woodburn, printmakers from Santa Barbara who have collaborated on a large “tree of life” as well as individual prints. “Some of the events we are sponsoring during the exhibit’s run will help people learn more about what is happening locally,” said Davies. Special family-friendly events affiliated with the exhibition include: Art After Dark Paso...
